Be Diligent In Your Studies Prof.  Oboreh Charges Matriculating Students

The Vice – Chancellor of the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Professor Jacob Oboreh, has advised matriculating students of the University to be diligent in their studies,  just as he warned them to shun any form of social vices.

Prof. Oboreh gave the advised during the institution first matriculation ceremony at the event/convocation arena, Ozoro Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State.

He warned the newly matriculated students, that his administration as Vice Chancellor of the institution will have zero tolerance for cultism and indecent dressing.

In his words: “I have instructed the institution security not to allow anyone with dreadlocks or any form of indecent dressing into the academic compound”.

He stated that “Matriculation is an ancient academic tradition which confers membership of tertiary institution on would be scholars. The membership gives you the right, even after graduation to participate in the activities of the University Alumni and to access some facilities in the institution”, he stated.

He added that, “Matriculation offers you opportunity to embark on a unique journey. This unique life experience allows you to exercise freedom but demands that you become responsible in every area of your conduct”.

He also said that for the next 4 to 5 years matriculating students will be part of the great academic community, noting that the academic community is a community of scholars, lecturers/researchers and students; all of whom have come to learn and create new knowledge.

He added that University degree is conferred on students who are found worthy in learning and character, urging students to apply themselves diligently to their studies and make self-discipline their watch word.

He further said that, “You will have enormous opportunities to deepen your education, expand your understanding of society and begin professional training that will launch your future career”.

Prof. Oboreh revealed that the vision of the institution is to challenge the status quo in technology and produce bright minds prepared for the generation of technology innovations.

He pointed out that “Our focus is to provide excellent hands -on- skills training for students and improve their capacity to create ground breaking research directed towards solving the socio -economic development problems of our society, Nigeria and the world at large.

He however assured the pioneer students that the University shall continue to place premium on conducive environment needed to undertake teaching and research activities with qualified lecturers recruited.

He reiterated that management and staff of the institution are fully committed to the welfare of students, saying that the institution shall continue to maintain high standards of discipline and commitment to excellence.

The newly established institution has six faculties, namely; Administration and Management, Agriculture, Computing, Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Social Sciences, noting  that the University has 45 department with 45 programmes duly accredited by the National University Commission (NUC).
