The people of Idjerhe Kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to assist the community in its ongoing development drive by siting an institution of higher learning in the locality, as His Royal Majesty, Ovie Monday Arthur Whiskey, marks one year coronation anniversary .
The community made the call on Sunday on the occasion of the thanksgiving and grand reception commemorating the one year coronation anniversary of their traditional ruler, His Majesty, Ovie Monday Arthur Whiskey Udurhie I.
In the same vein, the kingdom made an appeal from the State Government to provide the with skills acquisition centres, health facilities as well as speedy approval for rehabilitation of the King’s Palace Road in Otorho-Idjerhe.
Ovie Arthur Whiskey who formally presented the community’s requests to government on behalf of his subjects commended Governor Okowa for the numerous appointments bestowed on worthy Idjerhe sons and daughters.
He also expressed gratitude to the government for creating enabling environment for peace and harmony to reign in Idjerhe community.
“Idjerhe Kingdom is a major player in the oil and gas industry as we are host to SEPLAT Energy with over 20 corked oil and gas wells. We appeal to your Excellency to use your good office to prevail on SEPLAT Energy to bring these corked oil wells on stream.”
“We also plead with His Excellency to direct the oil company to convert Idjerhe 17 contract staff who are working with them into permanent positions and consistently adhere to the 20% local content policy of the Federal Government so that Idjerhe Kingdom can reap the fruits of her God-given resources”.
The Chairman of the anniversary planning committee, Chief Benson Okorodudu, in his address earlier, applauded King Whiskey for displaying exemplary leadership prowess that were worthy of commendation.
“The enthronement of His Majesty Obukohwo Monday Arthur Whiskey as King of Idjerhe kingdom has brought about peaceful coexistence amongst the 84 villages that make up Idjerhe Kingdom and our immediate neighbouring communities.”
“His foresightedness has opened a floodgate of development to the kingdom in virtually all spheres of life”.
Dignitaries from different parts of the country graced the carnival-like anniversary celebration which featured traditional dances, presentation of awards and merry making, among others.
