Okpe Union to host Political Electees, celebrate 93rd Anniversary

Okpe Union, the apex social-cultural of the Okpe kingdom, is set to host Political Electees and celebrate its 93rd anniversary on 16th May, to commemorate the creation of the Okpe Union which is also know Okpe Day.

The event which is tagged; “Respositioning the Okpe kingdom For Rapid Developmental Strides”, will hold at Udoghan Hall,  Adane-Okpe Square, Orerokpe, the ancestral home of the Okpe people in Nigeria and in Diaspora.

According to a statement signed by Chief Iriri King, National Publicity Secretary, Okpe Union Headquarters.

The statement read in parts; “The 93rd Okpe Union Day theme; “Respositioning the Okpe kingdom For Rapid Developmental Strides” the Theme of this year’s event is apt because of the uniqueness of the time: Political sprouts of our sons’ spin-off to the shore of the Okpe Kingdom and berthed for her social-economic development to boost economic growth and progress.

“Union Day, 16th May 2023, is a day of glory in the Okpe Kingdom. A day that out people will troop out in numbers, roll out drums to celebrate their own, and savour the joy of their electoral victories. We have never had it so good until now that providence has smiled on us.

“Who is Who” in Okpe Kingdom and beyond is attending the epoch-making event.

The father of the Day is HRM, Orhue I, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, CFR, mni, while the occasion would be chaired by an erudite Professor Sam Oyovbaire, former Minister of Information and Culture. A keynote address is to be delivered by Prof Hope Eghagha, of the University of Lagos and Secretary, Delta State Transition Committee.”

The statement further added that; “The political electees expected to grace the occasion are Rt (Hon) Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Governor-elect, Chief Ede Dafinone, the Senator-elect (Delta Central Senatorial District). Barr Ben Etanabene, the House of Representatives-elect (Okpe, Sapele, Uvwie Federal Constituency), Chief James Auguoye, the House of Assembly-elect (Okpe Constituency) and Chief Perkins Umukoro, the House of Assembly-elect (Sapele Constituency).

“Also expected to grace the occasion are all former and serving Honourable Commissioners in Delta State, Chairmen of Sapele and Okpe Local Government Councils, House of Assembly members, and House of Representatives members, all Okpe extraction.The Okpe Leaders of Thought, and Think Tank of the Okpe Kingdom will also  be in attendance. In addition, our sons’ engaged in various human endeavors, to wit: Business, Politics, Government, Academia, and other fields would grace the occasion.

“The Union is looking at a bright and prosperous Okpe Kingdom from the prism of collective and Government commitments. The developmental model is to provide alternative finding sources for key infrastructural projects that will add value to the standard of living of our people.

“The present Executive Committee, ably led by Chief Aboze Joseph, President-General is collaborating with foreign investors to attract Foreign Direct Investment to the kingdom to boost rapid social-economic growth. The Union is also committed to transparency and accountability and ready to midwife programmes in partnership with relevant stakeholders and the Government to improve lives of her people in the kingdom.

“The Union makes a clarion call on all Okpe sons and daughters in Nigeria and the diaspora to grace the occasion that promised to be exciting, fun-filled and remarkable, as never before.”
