NUJ Delta Council To Engage Candidates From Ika Federal Constituency Monday Dec. 12

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council will Monday, December 12, 2022, be in Ika Federal Constituency to engage candidates of the various political parties participate in the 2023 general elections on it’s programme christened THE PLATFORM.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Chief Sony Neme, Chairman NUJ Delta State Council and Chairman, THE PLATFORM Committee, respectively.

THE PLATFORM is a forum created by the NUJ Delta State Council where candidates of different politicals parties in Delta State will be given equal opportunities to sell their manifestos to the electorates with a view to making informed decision on their choice.

According to the statement, “In tandem with our constitutional responsibility, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, invites candidates of the various political parties participating in the 2023 general elections to THE PLATFORM.”

“The friendly atmosphere will give the electorates the avenue to interface with the various candidates.”

“THE PLATFORM will kick-off with candidates from Ika Federal Constituency (House of Representatives and State House of Assembly).”

“It is scheduled to hold on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Ika Grammar School, Boji Boji Owa, Ika North East, Local Government Area, by 11am prompt. ”

Confirming the plan in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Comrade Ikeogwu said the train of NUJ Delta State Council will berth in Ika Federal Constituency on the said date to engage the candidates.

He said that current trend in democracy requires that people engage those wanting to represent them at various levels, adding that it was expedient in this time of our political history not to allow politicians continue in their usual way of not having a plan for the people before embarking on a mission to represent them.

He further stated that the electorates are also invited to the occasion to enable them have first hand information on the capability, capacity, competence, credibility and the preparedness of the candidates to enable know who is most suitable for the job.

He thereby called on the leadership of the political parties in the state to prepare their candidates for appearance as the union will take critical note of those who made it to the programme across the state as well as give it adequate Publicity for the people to know.
