The National Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has constituted a 9-man constitution review the NUJ Constitution, which many right thinking members of the union has described as obsolete and not able to capture the current realities.
The announcement of the committee is contained in a released signed by the National Secretary, Shuaibu Usman Leman
Walin Shadalafiya.
The NUJ Constitution Review Committee h as the National Treasurer, Mr Dele Atunbi,as Chairman, Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh-Member/Secretary, while Abba Murtala, Gbenga Onayiga, Helen Udofa, Roland Osakue, Iduma .O. Iduma, Salamatu Umar Abdullahi
and Umar Saidu are to function as members.
According to the release, this was in line with the campaign promise of the President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo to review the Union’s constitution.
“The terms of reference of the Committee are: To study carefully the present constitution to ascertain areas/sections that require amendment.”
“Request and collate submissions from state councils/stakeholders on areas/sections for amendment.”
“Compile a comprehensive proposal for amendment Submit a clean draft of the proposal to the National Secretariat. The draft will be used as working document at the Constitution Review Conference.
The Committee has 3 months to submit its report
