Vigilante Shot Dead Okada Rider In Delta

WARRI: A member of the vigilante group in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, has reportedly shot dead a motorcycle rider simply referred to in local parlance as Okada rider in Orhuworun near express Junction.

The incident has brought about tension in the area, following the alleged killing of the commercial motorcycle rider by the vigilante man who was on stop-and-search duties.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday morning. At the police post near Morfor junction, Orhuworhun.

Sources said that, “Amember of the vigilante group has shot dead an Okada rider here in Orhuworun by express Junction, Udu Local Government Area.”

“The Okada rider died on the spot, we don’t know if it was accidental discharge from one of the police officers. But other people claimed the deceased was shot for allegedly refusing to give N100 bribe to the fleeing vigilante.”

“The people are angry now as it has bought serious tension in Udu, near Warri Delta State.”

Angry mob allegedly set police van on fire. As serious surveillance is currently mounted at the incident scene.

“An operational vehicle belonging to the police officers has been reportedly set ablaze by mob who are currently protesting against the incident”.

A team of soldiers have been drafted to the scene in an effort to return normalcy to the troubled area.

When contacted for comment, the State Police Acting relations officer PPRO Edafe Bright confirmed the incident.

He said, “yes it is confirmed, it happened as a result of little aguement.”
